1st XV
From the kick-off it was clear that Kobe SciTech High
School were going to make life difficult for Trinity at the breakdown.
Sustained pressure from the home side combined with a few handling errors and
poorly timed passes from the visitors, saw Kobe SciTech post the first try.
Soon after Trinity equalised from a nicely run centre switch between Lachlan
Ilias and Jordan Morris. Not long after that, Trinity took the lead with a little
inside ball from Cooper Chambers to put James Wayland over from ten metres out.
On both occasions we had to breakout from our own half to
post tries which was a credit to the opposition pressure. Half time score,
Trinity 12 Kobe SciTech 7.
At halftime, both the coaching staff and players made
necessary adjustments to combat the Kobe SciTech style of play with impressive
results. Trinity scored 69 unanswered points in the second half. A combination
of direct phase play, primary support and linking in attack certainly took the
sting out of the Kobe SciTech breakdown and defensive work.
Nick Driessen and Ben LoRusso ran the ball strongly,
Charlie Howard applied constant pressure from the open side flanker position
and Cooper Chambers provided direction and supplied pinpoint service at scrum
half. All are relative newcomers to the 1st XV and had outstanding games.
The four tour leaders all had impressive performances.
Both Jordan Morris and James Wayland were heavy in defence and piercing in
attack, scoring seven tries between the two of them. Ryan Longville was a
handful on all counter attacks scoring three tries. Captain for game, Liam
Rasch, despite playing in the 1st XV since year 10, scored his first try for
Trinity. The crowd went banana's !!!!
2nd XV
With a few changes due to injury and some shuffling on
the selection front a much different side from the last fixture took the field.
It didn't take long for Trinity to exert some dominance and by midway through
the first half it was clear that we were not only the bigger side, but the more
skilful as well. Numerous line breaks and strong phase play and breakdown work
saw Matt Teixera (2), Matt Doyle and Joshua Ananda run in tries in the first
half. Expansive play was the order of the day from the Trinity boys, with the
line-out being their only Achilles heal. Half-time score Trinity 24 Kobe Sci
Tech High School 0.
Trinity continued on in the same vein in the second half,
with some of the younger members of the tour having their day in the sun.
Strong carries from Lachlan Gai and Avery Freeman didn't go unnoticed. Also
Josh Ananda, James Haddad, Joseph Chamoun, Wilbur Tsang and Alex Karvountzis
had their best games on tour. Kobe SciTech rallied somewhat in the 2nd half
running in two tries. However, with Max Swallow leading the forwards and Scott
Seeto directing the backs, Kobe SciTech were no match for the Trinity 2nd XV
who finished the stronger team. The final two tries of the game demonstrated
both both brute strength from big Johnny Bechara and blistering speed from Jo
Chamoun to both crash over and seal the result. Trinity 34 - Kobe SciTech High
School 10.

Tour Diary - Day 10: Match day versus Kobe Science Technology High School
Day 10 - 9th December
Day 10 was a significant day as for the boys playing
against Kobe Science Technology High School at Kwansei Gakuin High School and
it all started with a nutritious breakfast at Hotel Takezono Ashiya. As a team,
we travelled to Kwansei Gakuin High School and arrived around 9:30am. After
settling in and off loading our bags, we then headed out to the field for a
quick and light captains run in preparation for this afternoons game.
With the boys and coaches happy with the light training
session we were then given 1000 Yen each and were able to walk as a team to
purchase lunch. Around 1:00pm we then walked back and prepared for the game
ahead with the boys going through their game preparation and strapping if
needed. Around 2:00pm we walked to the main field of Kwansei Gakuin High School
where the seconds warmed up for a 3:00pm kickoff. As the firsts looked on and
started to prepare for their game, the Trinity 2nd XV performed extremely well
coming away with a 34 - 10 win. The 1st XV kicked off at 4:00pm and showed
great teamwork from the outset along with a willingness to play great running
rugby. This eventually lead to a well executed 81 points to 7.
After a song, greetings from the players from Kobe
Science Technology High School and the traditional exchange of gifts we made
our way back to our hotel via public transport, bus and then train. We then had
a traditional Japanese meal that concluded a fantastic day on the 2015 Japan
rugby tour.

Tour Diary - Day 9: Training Day at Kwansei Gakuin High School
Day 9 - 8th December
On day 9 of the tour we all knew we had a big day of
training and some hard work ahead of us all. It began with a nice breakfast at
7:30 on level 3 of Takezone hotel. We got on a bus with all our gear in our
bags and headed off to Kwansei Gakuin High School for a big training session.
We arrived and walked to our field that we were going to be training on and
playing on. Once training had finished we caught a public bus and train back to
the hotel. We had a meeting about going out to do our washing and to get
something to eat with the 1000 yen we had received. We had to check back in at
3:30 so the staff knew that we were all safe. We all went back out and got back
at 5:30. We went up to our rooms and then made our way down to level 3 for
dinner where we had a tasty Japanese hot pot full of meat and plenty of fresh
vegetables. We then had a tour squad meeting before heading back to our rooms
for a good nights rest before another fixture against Kobe Science Technology High School tomorrow.

Tour Diary - Day 8: Bullet Train to Hiroshima
Day 8 - 7th December
Day eight signified the start of the second week of the
tour, and was a rest from the training and playing of the previous days. The
day consisted of travel and an experience of Japanese culture, as we travelled
from Global Arena to Shin-Kobe through Hiroshima.
The tour party started the day early to make sure they
were ready for the long day of travel ahead. At 8:30, we boarded a bus for
Kokura Station, where we departed by bullet train for Hiroshima. The
experience was novel and exciting, travelling at such high speeds.
After arriving at Hiroshima, we went to the Hiroshima dome and the memorial
museum. It was an incredibly humbling and eye-opening experience for all of the
boys, as we were informed of the events that occurred at Hiroshima, and how
they shaped the Japanese culture. Many of the boys on tour were surprised to
see the much more somber side of the normally vibrant culture of Japan.
After visiting Hiroshima, we boarded another bullet train
for Shin-Kobe, where we stayed the night. After settling in to our accommodation,
we were roomed in pairs with our same position from the different team. Once
unpacked we had dinner at the hotel. During dinner the Head Master arrived and
lightened all the boys spirits. However, many of the boys were disappointed that
they were being deprived of going to the communal baths.
Overall, the day was extremely enjoyable, as we were able
to experience two completely different sides of Japanese culture, the bullet
train and the memorial at Hiroshima, and welcomed the Head Master to the tour.

Tour Diary - Day 7: Game Day
Day 7 - 6th December
On the 6th of December we started with a little walk on
the field and talk about what we will do for the challenging game ahead. We
also discussed improvements we could make to deal with the Higashi Fukuoka High
School sides. We then walked to the dining hall and had breakfast.
We got changed into our game jersey and started warming
up for the game. During the game we had great difficulty against Higashi
Fukuoka High School. They were very FAST!!!
Then we had some lunch and packed our bags for our next
destination. We will be going to Hiroshima tomorrow for a day tour and we will
be travelling on a bullet train to get there.
We then reviewed the First XV game on the video before
dinner and then some people went to the communal Japanese bath. At 6 pm we had
dinner and then reviewed the 2nd XV game on video before heading for bed.
