Pre- Game nerves 40minutes before kick-off as the sun sets on a very cold day
Post game Trinity Grammar School Squad and Fukuoka High School
Victory celebrations as we all sing !!!
Game 1 was broken down into three 20 minute thirds. Conditions were extremely difficult with driving rain for most of the game accompanied by 20 knot winds from one end. Temperatures were below 5 degrees Celsius, we were playing under lights at night and the surface was synthetic turf. Despite the trying conditions the boys equipped themselves very well.
There were a lot of combinations that had not played together before, which is I guess the beauty of a tour, and much to our surprise given the conditions there were significant patches of cohesive rugby. Backline play and line-outs were hardest hit, although it was great to see some terrific scrummaging from all the forward packs. There were also several opportunities for counter attack and the boys seized on these, which lead to quite a few open fast passages of play, some of which lead to tries.
Despite and early set back with a try to Fukuoka High School, the Trinity Boys fought back strongly and ended up running out winners 35 - 5.
Third 1 - Trinity 0 - Fukuoka High School 5
Third 2 - Trinity 14 - Fukuoka High School 0
Third 3 - Trinity 21 - Fukuoka High School 0
Final Result: Trinity Grammar School 35 Fukuoka High School 5.
Tries : Chambers, Langham, Wayland, Venables, Roberts.
Con: Longville (4) Morris (1)
Our next fixture will be against the prefecture champions. On Sunday we play Higashi Fukuoka High School in two full 1st and 2nd Grade games at Global Arena.
