Tour Diary - Day 2: Higashi Fukuoka High School

Day 2 - 1st December

To start off the first morning in Japan of the 2015 Trinity Grammar rugby tour, the boys woke at 6:30 for a new and bizarre breakfast experience. Half boiled eggs, rice, miso soup and noodles was a interesting combination to start off the day. The boys dropped off their luggage and waited for Joshua Ananda and James Makarkis  to wake up and get ready and they were late for the departure from Toyo Hotel (Fine worthy in kangaroo court). Once we were set we walked to Higashi Fukuoka High School. The four leaders of the tour squad (Liam Rasch, Jordan Morris, Ryan Longville and I) stood in front of a polite and silent Higashi Fukuoka High School teaching staff, delivered a brief speech and introduce, as well as exchanging gifts. Once this happened the leaders gave a token of appreciation to the headmaster of the school. Once the boys had settled in, we made our way through the corridors and entered the dojo of the Kendo class. Loud screaming and great respect came from the kendo students as they demonstrated the technique and skill needed in the martial art of Kendo. After this the boys had a tough field session running the plays and finalising the set pieces of the tour. Once training had concluded we were assigned to our home-stay billets. A lot of the boys went out to dinner and shopping. Avery Freeman and myself went to the local traditional Japanese communal baths, which was a little confronting, however we survived to tell the tale.

All up a very enjoyable day with a lot of team bonding and new experiences.
