Tour Diary - Day 3: Training & Higashi Fukuoka High School Year 12 Farewell concert

Day 3 2nd December

The third day of our tour started with an early wake up at about 5:30 for most of the boys. The coaches decision to call for an 8 o clock training session in the sub 10 temperatures was unpopular amongst the boys. After training for an hour we had free time until lunch. In their dining hall we sat in forwards and backs groups and had a traditional noodle dish called Yaki-soba. Once we finished lunch, we ran out for another light session. Unfortunately George Varveressos aggravated an injury, but hopefully he will recover quickly. After this we had our first edition of Kangaroo Court. This is where the tour authorities ( Mr Ikeuchi, Mr Engele, Mr Payne and Mr Lombardo) decide who gets the burden of carrying our team mascot everywhere we go. A fine performance by Joshua Ananda (late for departing the Toyo Hotel) earned him a 24 hour stint with the mascot.

After our first billeting experience last night, the boys were keen to see more of the Japanese culture. Later in the day at the year 12 farewell for the Higashi Fukuoka students, it's safe to say that we saw some interesting performances in the talent show. Their farewell consisted of several performances by the boys, one of which involved a group of students dressed as girls singing a song and one game young man in a naughty Santa Claus outfit. This was a huge surprise to our boys as we could not imagine Mr Yarad allowing this behaviour at our school functions. We also had to sing as a group in front of 2500 students, quite nerve racking. Needless to say the boys had a good time.

The late afternoon was spent shopping or ten pin bowling before returning to our billets houses for the evening.

Overall it was a great day for the boys.
